In Sugar Land, Is there any code to follow to hook up an outdoor natural gas grill to the gas line? (I already have natural gas pipe line extended to my outdoor patio)

Only a professional plumber should do it ? OR anyone can do it if he follows some instructions(?) listed somewhere ?

.

For your family safety I would recomend a plumber doing it. There is no code as far as I know. I did have a plumber install my line for $75 and a 5 minutes job. Ouch But better be safe than sorry....

Now if you know what you're doing then sure, go for it. I didn't despite all internet DIY guidance.

You'll want a plumber to do it. Not worth creating a gas leak to save a few bucks. Call around. I'm sure if you shop around someone will want to come out for 5 minutes and do it on the cheap.

Please make sure your grill is rated for actual natural gas, not propane. I believe its a different system.

Hubby hooked up our Natural Gas Grill this weekend. Instructions were included with the grill and we had to buy 3 additional pieces of pipe from Lowes. He followed the instructions and checked for leaks prior to lighting. He is an engineer so felt comfortable doing this - if you are in anyway uncomfortable doing this yourself get a plumber

Could not find anything regarding code on Pearland City's website.

If the Marin gas folks in Sugar Land didn't give you a good price just go to Home Depot, Lowes or Northern Tools and pick up one of the plumbers business card and call around for pricing. I paid $75 but I think it was way expensive for a 5 minutes job.

So let me get this straight. A plumber had to get years of training and certifications. Had to get licensed and has to deal with local codes, rules, and inspectors. Had to buy all kinds of tools. Has to have a vehicle, pay for gas, and come out to your house.

And you think $75 is a lot of money??? What would you charge?

I think the Great State of Texas says anybody touching electric or gas needs to licensed.

They require neither a permit nor an inspection. How serious can they be?

I think $75 is too cheap! Most plumbers will probably charge no less than $200. I'd jump on paying $75 to a licensed plumber for the job. I just don't see that happening unless you know someone or he isn't licensed.
