I have a friend in Austin who calls Houston, the "armpit of Texas". I use, "outskirts of Houston"

Houston for areas within COH, Houston Metro for the Satellite Burbs/Exurbs.

But like said before, because of the size of the city, most people will say what side or part of town they live closest too.

I vote for "Houstonland" - in fact, I have been calling it that for years.

So you kiss your friends a$$ and apologize for where you live by distancing yourself from Houston ? That's rather gutless wouldn't you say ?

Houstonland?

Why would anyone want to call it Houstonland? Too much of a knock-off of Chicagoland. Same way we bit "Bay Area Houston" from the actual Bay Area. I miss the original Clearlake name.

I guess the generic Houston area works fine!

Houstonia.

It's because it reminds me of it's own little country within Texas, like one of those little nation-states in Eastern Europe. (Latvia, Estonia)

Don't judge me.

In literature it would be called the greater metro Houston area. In conversation it is metro Houston...

I say Houston since I live in the city. I never liked "bayou city". Bayous are dirty.
