Angola has state owned resources and confiscates what little private property is left. I wouldn't call that less government.

Apparently, people didn't believe Bill White when him and his campaign called Perry on the budget. Unfortunately, Perry did his politician thang and was able to release the budget after he won. You'd think the conservatives would be perplexed and upset at Perry but he did his politician thang and shifted the blame again off him, his administration, and Republicans in general. The state of Texas spends the least money per citizen but somehow it's the poor, the illegals, greedy teachers, EPA, Obama's fault that the budget wasn't managed properly.

It's funny you keep hearing about how less government is better, but you never hear those same people saying smart government is better. Perhaps people are jaded and cynics and no longer think the government can be "smart", but how do they expect to not keep repeating the same mistakes? Insanity is doing the same and expecting different results.

I've actually never agreed with that statement... I can spin a roulette wheel 100 times and get nearly as many different results. I can plant flowers in the same spot and, due to the randomness of unseen events beyond our control, get different results. I can even buy the same lotto tickets every week and lose, yet some day come out as the big winner.

No, I believe insanity is using idioms you once heard somewhere and taking it out of context.

As for the UK the austerity measures involve removing and reducing services while retaining the bloated apparatus of government. Some might argue this approach is more government rather than less.

For example they (the British Government) had the brilliant idea of interfering with the energy sector by increasing tax on producers to nearly 81% which has led to a situation where marginal fields are going to be abandoned. At exactly the time when we need to be producing more of our own energy. A great example of too much government.

Those benefits need to be removed for the large majority of these people there are plenty of jobs out there for the lazy feckers. They just prefer not to do them. Funny how 'illegals' seem to manage to exist without any of these state benefits don't you think?
