Young writers tend to do it. I used to.

It's good to be able to wield the language any way you like, but it doesn't mean readers will understand it.

Civil engineer?! Where did your parents go wrong!

At least your college has you writing essays right out of the gate, mine was too busy filling our heads with "important" things. A well rounded education is so important. Of course, all these years later I wish I'd taken medieval history, much more interesting...

Where do Vermont and Georgia rank on economic output? Probably would have made a stronger case to compare Texas with real economic powerhouses like New York or California.

Lastly, for the love, please edit out the terrible similes ("the recession hovering over America like a big black rain cloud ready to explode into tears"). Gag. Any professor worth his salt will rip that to shreads.

Better brush up on critical thinking and writing skills if you want a good job after graduation. Sorry for the harsh criticism, but it's for your own good.
"Economic powerhouses like New York or California"? Mmmm, could you explain the fact that almost every business and person with a brain in California are moving to Texas? Vermont and Georgia? A silly suggestion. Not even relevant.

Hey A&M - thanks for sharing!

To those who comment - cut the guy some slack - he wrote a paper and turned it in and got a lot of opinions and information and sites on where to look from this forum.

Exactly! What's the big deal?! People acted like I've talked down on Texas. The only thing that I've done was MAKE TEXAS LOOK GOOD! Be happy! Geesh!
