Cinco de Mayo Celebration. San Antonio's Guadalupe Dance Company makes its Houston debut. May 1 in Miller Outdoor Theatre, Hermann Park.
Dragon Boat Festival. Teams of 20 paddlers compete in 40-foot boats. May 7 at Allen's Landing (Buffalo Bayou at Main Street).
Highlights of the Houston Ballet. Houston Ballet performs a mixed repertory program of three short works, including Stanton Welch's The Core: Gershwin, the Heart of the Big Apple. May 6-8 at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Hermann Park.
The Grass Roots. Although the group members have changed over the years, Boomers will remember the music of this '60s-'70s band (Midnight Confessions, Temptation Eyes, Baby Hold On and more). May 14 at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Hermann Park.
Pasadena Strawberry Festival. Much more than berries: music and mud volleyball are part of the fun. May 20-22 at the Pasadena Fairgrounds.
Madame Butterfly. Houston Grand Opera presents Giacomo Puccini's popular opera. May 20 and 22 at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Hermann Park.
Art Car Parade. More than 250 works of art will roll down Allen Parkway May 22. (Sneak peek May 21 at Discovery Green.)
