Most of the teachers in my family and circle of friends would not trust the principal enough to make that decision. Some make pretty good pay. A plain ol teacher, no masters or Spanish or sponsor, who is very good at her job makes $67000.

In each case mentioned, the parent used the address of someone else (in the original case, the FATHER of the child) who was not using the school services that their taxes pay for. In my view, if I am paying taxes for a school, I should be able to use it. This is a case of theft, but its the school district stealing from the taxpayers in refusing to provide a service that has been paid for under threat of home foreclosure. It's another reason why the public school system is so unfair.

Just curious, what framework does Texas have to support charter schools? My wife and I just moved here from Arizona which had a pretty robust program. Basically, as a parent you could choose to send your child to the district assigned public school, or send your kid to whatever charter school you wanted to and the state dollars followed your child. Basic rules were that a charter school couldn't charge above what the state provided and couldn't choose who to accept / reject (if it got full, they could use a waiting list, but priority had to be given to those who had waited the longest).

It seems to have been successful in a lot of areas, though the education system there is still a mess for reasons I won't get into here...

There are some very good charter schools in Texas. There are some where the entire administration should be jailed.
If I were 25 years younger, there would be a charter high school on 1960. All academics and fine arts. No football.

Yeah I guess teaching your children to strive for more and never settle for less is a terrible life lesson.

If the "teaching" part involves lying and cheating to manipulate the system, then, yeah, it is.

Yes she is a horrible mother; that child is probably so ashamed of his mother for trying to give him a better education.

Forgive the tangent. I'm chasing rabbits.
Y'alls discussion regarding the mom and what she is teaching her kid goes to the heart of what we all are aware of. The system is not fair. That mom may be low life trash. Why should the kid suffer? Why can't all children have good schools? Are kids in low income neighborhoods doomed? Does God love them less because their parents are not smart and successful? That kid is getting a rotten deal. So are most of our kids.
We should all be rioting in the streets.
