Touche...

I actually forgot to be upset about that when I got my NOTIFICATION OF DRAINAGE UTILITY CHARGE which is guaranteed to peace me off for perpetuity.

a smart meter gives centerpoint the capability to disconnect/reconnect remotely from the main office, instead of sending a crew to do it....also in the future it will have capabilites to allow customers to monitor their usage online and stuff. and also in the future, it will be able to communicate with "smart" devices in your home..ex: alarm, a/c, etc. but of course, you will most likely have to puchase items that can actually communicate with it.....

I've had mine for 10 months or so. It seems to be accurate.

I recently checked my electric bill and also noticed this recovery cost charge for the smart reader, it was like $3.50

Actually, I already get weekly reports by E-mail regarding my usage and cost/week with an estimate for the month based on the usage so far. Pretty useful.

Thanks all. That's good to know that they don't seem to be ripping you off. The usage reports would be very helpful for me as well. I've had to wonder about my current meter a few times because there were times that either it was severely misread or it isn't working right all the time as I had a crazy high electric bill with double or triple the normal usage a few times. I couldn't get Centerpoint to come out and test the dang thing either. Hopefully this will put a stop to that.

Just got mine a month ago; usage is "up" but then, it was "up" with my old one, which makes me think it is me, not the meter.

No complaints so far....

Some states don't allow the utility to charge for installing the meter. Guess Texas does.
