Grant it, I've been in Houston going on 6 years now and haven't heard of any but I'm just curious if anyone knows of a small ISP that provides fiber solutions to homes within the loop. I think its ridiculous that the nation had millions of miles of dark fiber lying right beneath us thats not being used because of bureaucratic bull and duopoly isp's paying lobbyist to keep the small players out. I've had Comcast but had to get rid if them after they instituted their 250GB caps (I had the 50mb/s tier), switched to U-verse and shortly after THEY began instituting caps of the same amount. I have the highest tier with U-verse @ 25mb/s and its proving not enough when you consider the caps.

Currently, I work from home. Also working on some interactive GIS applications for grad school. Combine my average Netflix and Hulu usage and I'm easily over 250GB in a month. Could really use a service like FIOS (no caps and symmetrical speeds) but they don't have build outs within the city.

Any help is appreciated.

I am in the same exact boat you are. I was fortunate to find that my employer provided a discount for Comcast Business Internet which is not capped, though the speeds are only advertised as 16Mbps. I'm surprised you had U-verse available, I'm in Eastwood and we don't even have that.

Yea, I'm at the Bayou Lofts. Pretty sad that a city as large as Houston only has to viable choices for "broadband". No fiber solutions in sight, nor in the near future. Can't possibly be regarded as a top tier city with this type of attitude. I'm almost inclined to move out of state simply because bandwidth is how I eat. Having non-capped, symmetrical services would help extensively.
