FYI: Houston is not the only city with red light cameras
but surely we have most of them: http://www.redlightcameralist.com/po...es-of-America/

Does this ruling surprise anyone? Not me. The simple fact that your govt refused to take those cameras down is was and always will be rock solid proof that they always intended to turn them back on after all the heightened awareness wore off after the sham of an election where people were paid to vote went to the polls and voted for red light cameras.

It's disgusting. Liars, thieves and crooks. Go ahead and vote again come November, be disapointed because you were lied to then go vote again as if you never learned your lesson.

Maybe something good will come of it. The pigs might quit hiding like Cats after their prey with their silly radar and go back to sitting in Shipley's donut parking lots all morning....and afternoon....and night.........and...well you know. This would most certainly make our roads safer without them
I hear ya, but according to my brother (an attorney) the main reason they were not taken down was due to the anticipation of such a ruling. The contract in conjunction with Texas law in regards to referendum voting has made this a tangled situation all along. Top that off with a mayor who inherited this, and we end up where we are at now.

You all know I'm liberal/Dem, but this was an issue I disagreed with White 100 percent. I'd still take this mess over slashing education, requiring sonograms and NOT voting to outlaw texting while driving any day.

For some people, I'm sure they voted to remove the cameras because they hated getting caught by them, but for many people, it was the unaccountability and complete subversion of the proper judicial system and presence of temptation to modify lights to generate extra revenue that led to the vote going the way it did. The majority didn't vote for running red lights, they voted against the breach of the 4th amendment (ie assumption of guilt without the benefit of a jury) and the risk of disreputable DOT agents now having another reason to modify light timing (to generate more cash).

Its rarely the idea people vote against, but the possible unintended consequences that could arise when one group is given yet another lever of power over another.

Good. They should've never gone off in the first place. Stop playing chicken with the lights and you wont get flashed.

Well if the cameras are going to be doing most of the work of catching bad drivers then maybe it's time for a pay cut for police officers. They even have empty cop cars sitting at underpasses along 59 to scare drivers into obeying the law. Another reason to cut their pay. If a camera and a empty cop car can do your job then maybe it's time their paychecks were reevaluated.

BINGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best and most accurate post of the week. I'm more inclined to say lay off 80% of the domestic terrorists. No one needs them but Shipley's.

Not a pay cut.
Same as in a factory, if a robot can do your job... guess what happens to you.

Not necessarily. Just increase capability at the high-crime areas. Besides, we still need someone to conduct sobriety tests, work accidents, etc.

Precisely. If their job is going to be automated then we don't need them. If every camera got two cops fired, I say keep the city under constant surveillance (not really).

If someone was actually a "law abiding citizen" then they would have no issue with the camera. In case you're not clear, according to the dictionary, "law abiding" means (of individuals) adhering strictly to laws and rules and customs. I'm assuming that also means not running red lights.

Personally, even though I don't run lights, they scare me. However, I LOVE THEM! Let's do what we can to keep them and keep people from running red lights. Not to mention, it does earn our city more money and I believe that's a good thing.
