We're moving to Houston soon, we definitely want a swimming pool
I've never owned a home with a pool.

We had one as a kid, I remember my dad complaining about the electrical cost of the pump and for heating it. I don't have any interest in heating it there in Houston. (more likely, I'd want to chill it!)

What about just general cost of electricity for the pump?

I have kids, so we'll clean it ourselves, just like my dad made me do those many years ago...

thanks

Well I have a pool here in Florida, and the weather is similiar. It cost me (per FPL) and additional $50 a month for each 8 hours it is run. Owning a pool here in not the same as up North. When we had a pool in MA we had it filled by a tanker and then just needed to stabilize and shock but in this type of climate where it is constantly sunny and rains a lot algae grows really fast and it's bad....if I were you I would get a pool company for $100 a month.

Default I know of a great pool company

We have had our pool for almost a year now and we love it! Our bill only went up $50-60 a month. I can recommend a great pool company, Cy Fair Pools, the owners name is Scott, his number is 832-483-2279, his prices were fair and he was always there making sure there were no problems and to see if we had any quesitons.

We recently had a pool/spa put in about a year ago. Our builder was Precision pools in richmond. Our cost went up about $60 per month in the summertime when we run the filter pump a bit longer than the fall/winter time. Best thing we ever did! If you are interested in contacting them I would suggest talking to Suzy at 281-265-2774.

We're in the process of building a house, unfortunately the builder only allows one pool company to build out a pool during construction, and they are laguna pools. they look like they did a good job at the model home. but they also are on the higher end of they quotes that we have received.

In terms of costs, i'd say it can range a lot. depends on what you want and if you also want landscaping done, which is quite expensive as well.

i'd say you can get a pretty good size pool with a some features for about 35 K- 40K.

Go with how much you want to spend to the pool company and have them design something for you. get 3 or 4 quotes, and compare apples to apples.

make sure they all use similar materials for the pool construction and for decking.

You also get what you pay for from what i've read.

hope it helps.

Any pool maker who can offer a moving pool floor, which can be elevated electrically & serve as a cover, thus saving space ?

Or is it too much for ordinary pools &/or very expensive...

Theoretically,it should be feasible & affordable.

Pools are a pain in the butt in Houston.
When its gets too dry they can "pop." When its too wet they can sink. If you ever empty the pool completely you're screwed. If the pumps go down and the pool goes green, you better have an expert clean it or it's going to cost thousands to fix.

I would never put a pool in on purpose on a property. If it's already there, its doesn't stop my purchase. But I know I'm in for at least 3k a year trying to keep it up.
