I use them all the time. Spending $2 on a $25 meal seems like a hell of a deal to me (even with an 18% tip). I can easily spend $25 with two people.

My family chooses eating at home over eating out, any day of the week. We're in complete control of the food, quality of ingredients, the way it is cooked, etc. Plus, it's cheaper, healthier, doesn't require getting in the car and burning up gas, and wasting time waiting for a table.

Unless you grow everything yourself you're never in complete control. And of course it's always cheaper to stay home...but then you'd never leave the house. I don't consider time spent with my family wasted.

If you read the fine print, you have to spend a minimum of $35 in order to use the $25 gift certificate. So for an order of $35, you have to spend at least $21.30: $2 (gift cert.) + $10 (extra out of pocket) + $6.30 (tip for $35)+ $3 (tax). So you have to find stuff on the menu to add up to $35 or more (not including drinks) and then try to finish the food that you probably would not otherwise order.

Don't agree with your logic. It's like saying there's no need to leave the house because everything you need is already at home. There's more to explore beyond the door of your house.

That's easy to do with 2 people, and a pretty cheap date. I would have spent at the very least $50 without the coupon. So $50 - $25 - $2 for the coupon = $23.00 in savings, and I usually tip at least 20% anyway. Some places also include beer and wine as well.

Go with a group of four people and it's very easy to spend $100 to get that $50 coupon. Split that $50 4 ways and it's a steal.

I only discussed food, and never said anything about staying home with regard to other areas. Folks aren't reading very carefully, and are jumping to conclusions awfully fast.

Make sure that you read "fine" print and understand the concept.
Also you suppose to notify your waiter about the coupon BEFORE you order the food. So, there is a minimum chance of an unpleasant surprise.
Yes, I followed all those rules - read the fine print, showed the waiter BEFORE ordering - that is when she explained that they didn't accept them and that is when she asked the owner to come out who explained the issues to me. He did comp our wine for the trouble. I'm just telling people to buy smart and verify with the restaurant first or if they don't want to call before buying to go with the ability to pay full price should any problems arise. I have used these in other places with no problems and have only had issues on two occasions. In my case, I though ehh, I am only out $2 so didn't pursue the issue with Restaurant.com but I am certain they would have reimbursed me my $2.
