Im kind of curious... What exactly does a New Orleans style house entail? I've never knew there was a such thing as a NOLA style home.

What do you guys think is a Houston style home?

The Har.com - MLS description says 'greek revival' but this Houston Heights home looks like a New Orleans stlyle home to me.

There's some nice new construction in Sunset Heights, but lots are small, and some of the new construction or current construction is scattered among some very industrial type lots. Some of those industrial lots/warehouses have been purchased by builders so they might not be long for this world, but just something to keep in mind when you're looking. Also, take a look at the FEMA flood maps; if memory serves, some of this area might be in the flood plain, but new construction should be built up to the new specifications.

Shotgun houses are notoriously nola style, as are houses that are raised and without foundations and houses of different colors. Heights has many nola style homes. I live in one

Houston style (to me) would be generic Texas suburban style. Roughly speaking, from the '60s through the present. Many of those middle class type houses throughout the state look the same.

And if shotgun houses are 'New Orleans style,' the south side of San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley has plenty of 'New Orleans style.'

There are all kinds of houses in The Heights.
My FIL buys up homes and rehabs or tears 'em down and rebuilds 'em there.
He's also put plots together, etc, for bigger homes.

There have been various kinds of houses he's done this with. There are even some small, cute bungalows...surely something is in your price range, op?

I think it depends on your comfort level and what you're looking for and what your personal circumstances are. We actually had a map of the entire Heights area and would drive down the various streets and mark them down as "we would love to live here" or "this street is out." It really helped solidify *where* in the Heights we wanted to live.
