The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center received US News & World Report's #1 ranking for cancer care again. It has received the #1 ranking 7 times during the past 9 years. What an honor for Texas!

Research cuts are already in effect, and we anticipate more cuts to come. Also significant cuts to human and social service sectors. I think the only safe sector is defense. There will always be lots of money for weapons.

It's sad to see this mindset amplified in Texas, with the governor's business buddies trying to undermine the research infrastructure in Texas universities. We'll soon have to look outside the US for solutions to environmental, medical, and engineering challenges.
