Remember a couple of years or so ago when tv went from analog to all digital? If you didn't have cable you had to get a converter box for around $40. Now you need a converter box for cable as well. You can get two converter boxes for free from Comcast. I have a small tv in my bedroom that didn't have a cable box - I mainly use it to catch the news in the morning while I am getting ready for work. I had to get one of the free converter boxes when I realized I could no longer tune into HGTV - and now I actually have more channels than before.

Can't you get the box from Comcast for free? I don't mean the box that gives you digital cable with the guide and on demand, I mean a box that just gives you those digital channels and no guide, on demand etc.

I went online and ordered, for free and from Comcast, two boxes for my two tvs here at home that do not have that special digital box (with the on demand etc).

Do you have bootleg cable? If not, just get a box for free from Comcast.

Good luck with that. Most of those have terrible picture quality, are usually down, and illegal/they get shut down all the time.

They are not forcing anyone to do anything. Tell Comcast to stick ther lackluster entertainment programmes aimed at idiots up their lower orifice and turn off the idiot box.

If you can't live without a cathode ray nipple (this may be an L.E.D. nipple these days) then buy an aftermarket box, aerial and enjoy television without any cost whatsoever.

Personally I prefer reading, thinking and other unfashionable persuits but if you prefer to weaken your 'mind muscle' you don't have to pay for the privilege.

You're better off with the free, over-the-air stuff. Not a cent goes to those giant bloated cable companies with messiah complexes.

Does your "mind muscle" ever spend any time learning how to spell?

[I let programmes slide as I think that's an acceptable British spelling?]

For some reason Comcast is sporadically instituting this across the area. You think they would do it all at once.
