Hopefully, it gets better for you guys!

Here's an article about US-290 from NBiz magazine.

I don't see what the big deal is, I took 290 for 2 years to 610 and so on to get to UH, traffic is bad but traffic is bad everywhere. The lane width doesn't bother me but I guess that's cause I'm from Chicago and the lanes up there are even more narrow and traffic up there is worse. Yes the commute on 290 is long but when it's bumper to bumper on I10 commute is also long. Same thing everywhere you go

And it works better when cops decide to pull folks over right in middle of the heaviest traffic.

Me too. We live off 290 (inside the beltway) and DH's door-to-door commute to/from downtown during rush hour is typically half an hour, twenty minutes during non-peak times. No big deal. I often wonder if those who rail loudest about the traffic on 290 live crazy far out in Cypress and then are surprised about the commute to downtown.

I heard on the radio that it's hell on 290 today due to a car fire

That's true. The commute out to Cypress is no worse than the commute to The Woodlands.

I was stuck behind that accident on Friday due to bad timing. I was completely annoyed until I saw the accident [from the feeder road while stopped at the light- I'm NOT a lookie-loo!] and then read the article about what happened. I still can't get the image out of my head- it was bad.

There are some gruesome accidents here in Houston. I also know it's not limited to 290 but yeah, it's very inconvenient when it does happen. There are so few alternate routes when there is an accident that it's just irritating.

Not on the west or northwest sides at least.

Actually, work started this summer. The north loop frontage road reconstruction that is happening to the east of 290 is the first part of the 290 project. Work will begin on the 290/610 interchange by the end of 2011.
