Hello,

I am being considered for a job with a major oilfield services company based out of Houston. The position is R&D Materials Scientist. I have a Masters degree and 2 years of very relevant experience with a competitor company in Canada. I am wondering how much one would get for such a position. The company provides 10% bonus. If you have any information, please share with me. Thanks in advance.

I work for an oilfield services company here in Houston. I'd say you'd be looking in the $120-$140k range with a masters and some experience.

Thanks for the reply. That's a lot more than what I saw in some websites and this forum. Are you talking about a field position? The job I am being considered is more like a lab/product development position.

If your in the lab, and only have 2 years experience I'd say 70-80k. A MS doesn't buy you as much as an engineering degree.

If you're 'considering a job' with them, doesn't that mean they've given you an offer? Or did you mean you're just considering applying?

2 years experience is not much. 80k max. My sister in law is metallurgist with masters degree and 6 years experience, and I don't think she makes a 100K yet. I think she should though. She works for one of the service companies.
