Just wanted to make you all aware of an event my wife witnessed this weekend, and to give a reminder to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

At 10 am this past Saturday morning, my wife (who is 8 mo's pregnant) took our two boys (4 and 18 mo's) to Target in Pearland, on 518. As she was getting the boys out of the car, she witnessed an armed robbery in the parking lot. Another woman (also 8 mo's pregnant), four cars over, had put her two year old in the back seat of an Expedition when she heard someone try to get in the front door. Two masked robbers tried to push her into the car, and put a semi-automatic gun to her head. She immediately fell to the ground, hit her panic button on her car keys and began screaming. The robbers continued to try and get her into the car. They were unsuccessful and they fled in a maroon Ford taurus. My wife and a couple others provided police reports, but as of a report on Fox news tonight, the police do not have any suspects.

This didn't happen in some darkly lit, late night parking lot. This happened in broad daylight at 10am on a Saturday in a Target parking lot. It could not have been busier. When you are in the parking lot, beware of your surroundings at all times. This can happen anywhere....

Thank you for sharing. I hope everyone is doing okay. Is this common in Houston?

This situation is exactly why I get so mad at my darling 3 year old son who doesn't understand why mommy wants him to get in his car seat quickly so I can lock the car doors.

This scenario happens in the city of Houston (like any other large city), but it's upsetting to know this can happen in such a nice suburb as Pearland.

The Pearland cops are too busy writing speeding tickets on 288 to mess with unimportant stuff like pregnant ladies getting robbed in broad daylight. You've gotta understand there are priorities. You don't want people speeding in your nice suburb, do you?

Can't say it doesn't happen, but it'd take a lot of balls for someone to pull this off in daylight at the Target near Main/OST in the *Big, Rough, Dangerous City* where there's a lot more visibility in the parking lot than in Pearland.

this will happen to any place where theres a viable get-away route, especially from the scene of the crime (the parking lot itself).

I've heard from two different limo drivers who live in the Sugarland / Pearland area and from my hairstylist that it is getting bad in Swest Houston, Pearland and Sugarland.

Ok, I'm not saying for certain this didn't happen, but it just sounds awfully like those chain emails you get around the holidays, warning about assaults that happened in a parking lot. "My sister's, brother's, husband's, cousin's, wife's, dog's, vet's, etc. was shopping at X and saw someone in the parking lot trying to give away free samples of a perfume. They didn't take it, but later on, they heard someone who did take it got beat up and robbed in broad daylight and NO ONE helped them!"

Just food for thought. :\

Burglaries hit Fort Bend County subdivision | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle (broken link)

In other nearby and related news, Sienna Plantation residents are learning it's A) a good idea to lock the car doors and roll up the windows, and B) it's not good to keep all your credit cards in your easily accessible car interior.

Did these people pay that much money and move that far into nowhere for some false sense of security that you can do things like this?

They didn't want to build a commuter rail system into the burbs (in part) because they were so worried about criminals from *The Big Dangerous City* making their way to K-B Homes territory. And so they built more tollways. And the crime is spreading anyway. And it's not like they just started breaking into cars in the burbs last week. The Chron is always the last to tell you about it.

Who in their "right" mind would leave credit cards and other forms of I.D. in the car? Talk about a "false" sense of security in Sienna Plantation....
