Hello All -

I am relocating to the SE Houston for work (Pasadena area east of 610 and just north of 225). I am looking to spend up to $700/month for a studio or 1 BR. The priority is price and a decent/safe area that is close to work, and also a shorter lease term (5 or 6 months). I don't care about having a W/D in unit, just as long as it is available on site or nearby.

From previous threads, I read that the Idylwood & Lawdale St area is decent for renting a duplex/fourplex, and also the Eastwood area. But I can't find any postings or information on the internet for these areas, as it appears that I would have to be in the area and look for lease signs.

I have looked at various apartment postings online via Craigslist and Apartments.com, but so far the listings are over $700 or seem to be in a shady area.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction (as to areas and/or websites) before I arrive next week.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Try www.har.com under rentals. They list everything.

For that price, you might find something in Deer Park or the Fairmont area of Pasadena. There are some condos at Burke and Fairmont Parkway area called Walnut Hill. They are mostly owner occupied and well maintained and you can usually rent a nice unit from an individual fairly reasonable. Usually you have to just go look on the bulletin board just outside the gates for postings about available units. The other apt complexes around that are reasonable priced but just so-so. I'd probably only do Walnut Hill.

I agree with Texas7's suggestions about Deer Park and along Fairmont outside of Beltway 8 in Pasadena

Thanks for the suggestions! har.com was a big help. Since I will be working 70 hours/week, I have decided that price and location take precedence. With that said, I am looking at a 1BR place by the Starbucks on Gulf Fwy right next to 45.

Once I'm finished with the short term lease, I will upgrade to a nicer area like Deer Park.

Thanks again for the help.

Monroe is a kind of scary area.

I lived near the corner of Fairmont Pkwy and Burke for almost 20 years, no break-ins, lots of stores close by (plus Bayshore hospital around the corner), and rent for a 1 br in your price range.

the nicest area on the east side thats rather affordable is around galena park, northshore, or in channel view. Nice wooded neighborhoods where you can get a 1 bed for less than 500 a month, I know of some apartments for 400 a month in that area. Or at least thats what the listings say on rent.com, or apartments.com

That immediate area around Almeda Genoa has been in a decline for the past few years.
