A coworker of mine is moving closer in town. He'll be living in one of those Galleria highrises. What is the best internet provider for the Galleria area?

Has your coworker selected a residence? Has your coworker called the selected residence to determine cable TV and telco provider?

Incumbent major phone carrier would likely be AT&T in that part of town. If that's the case, U-Verse and/or DSL will likely be available. DSL over ATT lines may be available from other providers such as Earthlink, Oplink, etc.

Cable TV could likely be Comcast, Wavevision, or Phonoscope. If Comcast, they may provide the "fastest" service and also bundle TV and Phone services. Wavevision and Phonoscope also offer TV, Phone and Internet bundles. Earthlink may also provide cable Internet over Comcast lines.

CLEAR 4G wireless may be available in the area as well. Coverage and quality of service are very hit-or-miss. Some locations can get great service, while a location just across the street can't get squat. If your coworker goes this route, see if he can get a friend or dealer to loan equipment for a few days to test-drive the service at the residence.

Some residence complexes/communities have their own, independent telecommunication and TV service providers that may not be mentioned above.

Service provider is highly location dependent. Quality of service is, too.

It would probably be easier to answer "who is best" if we had an idea if we knew:

1.) What telco and cable TV providers are available at the residence
2.) If your coworker punched in the address in one of the service locators from ATT, Comcast, CLEAR

ATT - U-Verse - Check AT&T U-verse Availability - Digital TV, High Speed Internet & Phone

ATT - DSL - https://connect.att.com/apps/supern/...6W1!901012-0-1

Comcast - https://www.comcast.com/localization...age%3dInternet

CLEAR - CLEAR | 4G WiMAX Internet Coverage Map with Service Area.

3.) Where the residence is located in relation to CLEAR towers, what do you know of the distance, terrain, building structures, trees, etc. between the residence and the CLEAR towers as this will influence the quality of service for CLEAR.

Of course, this just covers the high data cap data plans and does not include the lower data cap mobile phone/3G/4G data plans from Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, Sprint (which invests-in-and-resells CLEAR's 4G) and others.

Maybe this is why I rarely start threads

He told me his main criteria was reliable and NOT Comcast.

Him and his gf have Netflix streaming, that much I do know.
