You also need to look at what is extreme heat to you? I know on the east coast that is usually temps around 90 or so. In Texas it's around 100.

I know in Houston we've already had over 100 days with temps above 90. We still have the rest of August to go and then September. I do admit this is a record breaking summer but do you think you would like May and September around 90? This year we actually had 90's in April.

Also remember that when it's 95 here in Houston you can pretty much guarantee the heat index is 100 or over do to the high dew points.

To answer your question though... I like a little bit of both.

After 15 years in Missouri.... I don't miss cold weather.
Well, maybe except for when I was in San Antonio in 2009 and the city had 59 days over 100 and my car's A/C was broken.

That summer made me a "Real Texan"

Lasted about 15 minutes before they were red in the face and dripping. These are kids who have experienced this type of weather every day with no exceptions for about 2 years now (just got back here from Thailand) so not really a question of not being used to it.
Play dates don't really happen in parks in Houston during August. Other options are pools, splash parks, and indoor playgrounds with A/C.

I choose extreme heat. I have dealt with it my whole life, so I prefer it. Went up to Maryland in 2008, and I couldn't handle the cold. My face froze in minutes! I would squint, and my face would get partially stuck that way. I didn't think that was possible. In the heat, I can get in a pool, get a drink, and relax. I will take that over having to stack on more layers of clothes the colder it gets. Or having to buy snow tires (which I have never experienced, and don't want to). Falling powerlines, tree branches, and sliding cars. No thanks you.

Extreme heat. Cold is only nice in October - December. After Christmas, it's depressing. I hate wearing thick clothing, taking it on and off all the time. Got tired of the shoveling, salt on the road, ice on the sidewalks, taking the dog outside for bathroom breaks, freezing rain.

Extreme cold. I enjoy cold weather. I can control the temperature with heater and clothes.

I hate heater heat. It dries my skin out and it's more stifling than our natural heat. Makes me feel like I'm suffocating. Of course I'm grateful for it when we need it.

I hope we have one of our more typical mild winters this season. Those last two were miserable.

Cold is easier to adjust to because you can bundle up and drink hot coffee and take a hot shower. With hot weather it just is what it is so you have to just deal with it and keep going in and out of air conditioning to cope with it. So on one hand cold weather is better. However, I would still choose hot weather over cold weather. Cold weather makes me feel older and more unhealthy while hot makes makes me feel younger and more active and healthy. Although hot weather sucks because you are always sweaty and having to shower where with cold weather you can stay fresh and clean all day without being sweaty and having to shower more.
