I have one of those nice stainless steel LG refrigerators that I bought from Home Depot. To cut the story short, it stopped working completely last night after only 18 months.

I am out of warranty and I was told by the LG technician that is the control board. I've read a lot of complaints online about this refrigerator and it seems that the control board has always been the issue for almost 70% of the customers after a year of use.

It's going to cost me $320 to fix the fridge. The refrigerator only cost me $950. Is it worth fixing?

What model #? I'd call LG back and see if you can find a helpful manager. From what I've read, sometimes they'll send out a new part but not cover labor if it's out of warranty a bit.

I'd call a maintenance guy asap or its going to smell soon. I had a compressor die after 4 1/2 years. (Sadly I was out of town, and on return it smelled like something died). The repair guy came over and said this was par for the course for the model I had. Things just aren't built like they used to. Going to cost a few hundred. I'd fix it the first time.

Well I am not in rush because I am a single person that hardly keeps anything in the fridge, except water and beer. lol

I do not know the model from the top of my head so I am going to try to see if I can the part cheaper at some other place. Will call LG again today to see if they can get me a part for free.

Tons of suppliers online. I used Appliance Parts Pros for some trim on a oven I bought from a scratch and dent place. Check ebay, amazon, etc.

I agree with Oildog, fix it once, if it craps out again soon, replace.

See if you can find it here

LG Refrigerator Circuit Board or Timer from RepairClinic.com (http://www.repairclinic.com/LG-Refrigerator-Circuit-Board-Or-Timer-Parts - broken link)

Did the tech do any actual testing or just say "it's the control board"?

I have an LG front-load washer and have had nothing but problems with it, both under warranty and as soon as the warranty expired. The last time it died the problem was the control board. The washer was out of commission for six weeks because LG doesnt allow anyone to stock its parts -- so any repairs have to await shipment of parts from LG (and they shipped the wrong part twice).

I wish you luck in getting your refrigerator fixed soon.

According to Consumer Reports, fix it. They just had an issue on "Replace or Repair" and 18 months out on a fridge is a definite repair.

Hmmm, see if they'll give you the part # of it when you call back.
