Meyerland is a nice area of Houston that is close to the Med Center. It is a little pricey though 250K+ and the houses are older 1950's and 1960's built but it can be a good choice if you want to live closer in, be in a nice area and have it still be somewhat affordable.

Isn't Meyerland right next to Bellaire?

Lights be damned, it RARELY takes more than 40 minutes.

I'll pay you $100 to meet me in my driveway, hop in my car with me, and it takes 45 minutes or more. Don 't pick a rainy day.

You just proved my point. 650 is not rush hour. 8Am is when the traffic really starts.
The fact that it took more than 30 minutes in relatively light traffic is pretty sad.

I'm interviewing with Memorial Hermann and hope to visit soon.
I enjoy getting home in 15 minutes, getting homework done and dinner before 9pm. Commuting time is a huge factor for me.

Ideally I'd like to spend max $2000 for a house to rent for a year until I get my feel of the area then I'll have to decide where to purchase.
I'd like to take advantage of nice public schools and a very safe neighborhood.
I'll continue to research Meyerland though...I'm guessing Sugar Land is out of the running at this point.

Any others??? Missouri City?? What's the good and the bad??
Mo-City (as they call it) is kinda ghetto.

Sugar Land is 10 times better IMO.

This is true for the most part.

Where I live (Homewood, IL) its a wonderful suburban eutopia (IMO). I've been working at a hospital 12 minutes from door to door for the past 6 years and I LOVE IT!!!
I love the tree lined streets, the beautiful clean park 2 blocks from my home, Dairy Queen 10 minutes away and school a 3 minute drive. That's just me...I lived in the city for many years and absolutely hated it. But what I hate just as much as city living is 45 minute commutes. So I guess what I'm saying is I can live with 30 minutes without pulling my hair out to the scalp.

So I'm faced with the reality that in order for me to get most of what I want (great schools, great community living, parks abound and ease of shopping) I'm going to have to sacrifice and drive a little. I'll have my coffee on my ride to work and a coke and snickers on the ride home to keep me from totally losing my head fighting traffic.

Some people don't mind driving...Me?? I'm not one of those people.
So I think I'm looking at Missouri City and possibly Pearland to keep my ride down to 30 minutes.

If you don't get the job at Memorial Hermann, look into jobs at all the Sugar Land hospitals - there are a ton of them and you could have the same sort of life as you have now.

Coke and Snickers on the way home? You work in Diabetes Education, right? (just kidding)

Bwahahahaha! Tell that to everyone that needs to be to work no later than 8AM. 288 actually starts clearing up a bit between McHard and Airport at 8AM. If I leave my house at 8AM, I take 288.

8am is rush hour? Rush Hour is usually getting lighter between 8 and 9. I take Almeda from Sienna Plantation and it takes me 50 minutes. I leave between 7:30 and 8. There is usually only one spot where traffic gets backed up after Broadway but its pretty smooth after that all the way into downtown.

Amusingly enough, Houston (3623/sq mile) has a lower population density than Homewood IL (3755/sq mile).
