You should've got a Kinetico water softener, as it is completely mechanical (no electronics involved) and regenerates only based on useage

@HoustonRonnie,

I just called Culligan. Man they are EXPENSIVE! But they said the system is freaking 13 years old. I got the system from the former owner. I have to wait till 19th to get the service.

Sorry about that. It always seems to hit at the wrong time, huh.

I have the Kinetico brand and I absolutly love it. It was worth the premium price. My neigboors softener already broke twice, first the electronics and second the salt thank overflowed.

Another happy Kinetico owner here! The thing is bullet proof, and I love that it has 2 soft water tanks so you never run out.

Water softeners are the best investment that a homeowner can make. The reason I say that is that it's the only appliance that actually and really pays for it's self. Even In moderately hard water your usage of soaps, shampoos, laundry detergent and all other cleaners should be decreased by 80%.
Everything in the house that has water flowing through it will last many years longer because of the lack of scale buildup. All of your pipes and drains will work better,
Your skin will not tend to get dry and ich the way it does with hard water.

There are a couple of cautions though. You should not drink soft water because of the higher sodium levels. Most of us already get too much of that and it's bad for us. I just always have a RO system for all my drinking and cooking. The RO system will last a very long time on soft water also.
You should always bypass your outside taps so as not to have soft water for your gardening needs. The salt will build up in the soil and kill things.
