I might have a job in Houston coming up but I know nothing of the area. I am from Arizona and looking into whether or not to move to Houston, or to a small city and commute to work. Recommendations?

Depends on what your work hours are, how much you value your free time, and how much you are willing to spend on housing.

A house or apartment inside the city will likely cost more than a similar place in the suburbs. However, that increased cost would likely be offset by lower travel expenses to and from work. You'll save on gas, tolls, wear and tear on your car, and not have to spend as much time driving.

Will you be working for a large corporation? Many large employers in Houston have carpools that take big groups into work from the suburbs.

What is your housing budget and where is your work located? No one can give you any feedback without that info. There are not really any small cities in commuting distance just suburbs and small towns that will soon be suburbs.

Houston is so large it would really depend on WHERE in Houston you are working and what you consider an acceptable commute time.
