Can anyone recommend a furniture place to buy affordable (but not cheap looking) dining chairs? Any area of town is fine. I have a table I like and want to keep but just want to find new chairs but for the price of chairs - I may as well go out and buy an entire new set with the table - it's cheaper. I've looked at most of the recognized furniture name places and no luck.

I collect antiques and I've done what you are doing. I had the table, but needed the chairs. My advice is to google "unfinished furniture" or "bald furniture" and find a store you like near you. Not only can you get hardwood chairs on the cheap, but you can stain and finish them to any color you like.

Just sayin'...

How affordable? Pier1 has a pretty good selection of chairs around $100 each. They should have something that matches.

Try Craigslist, if you don't mind used.

Thanks for all the suggestions - all great and all ones that I hadn't even thought about.

World Market- I was surprised by how nice some of them were
Nadeau- Furniture with Soul (cute but sometimes limited supply)
El Paso Import- can custom order and not badly priced. I was impressed.

I agree that chairs are SO overpriced pretty much everywhere. Tables are priced normally but they know they get you with the chairs.
