I will be moving to TX and would like information about Seabrook and any nearby areas. I would like to know about flooding issues, shopping and restaurants, schools, and cost of living particularly home taxes and insurance. Any info will be appreciated.

Go here and look for house in Seabrook. Then click Property Taxes on the right when you click on a house to get a ball park number. There's plenty of shopping within a 5 mile radius. Seabrook is a nice and safe city. Only downside is 146 during rush hour and the weekends. It's not so bad South of Kemah but North of the Kemah bridge it can get baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad traffic.

Here's a few recent threads on Seabrook:

Seabrook is in the Clear Creek ISD, which is one of the best school districts in the Houston area. For shopping there are some chain stores 5 mins up the road in Kemah (Target, Home Depot , Walmart). The closest mall is Baybrook (Friendswood/Webster area) on I-45 about 10-15 miles away. Kemah has a carnival/entertainment boardwalk with a bunch of restaurants and little shops. Flooding can be an issue, but it's all dependent on where you buy. Your realtor can help you with flood plain maps/elevation questions.

I have friends in Seabrook. Very nice area. I like the El Lago and Taylor Lake Village areas nearby too.

It's a great place to live if you don't have to commute to downtown every day.

My wife commutes to the med center 3-4 days per week and it really isn't that bad. 146 to 225 is usually pretty light on traffic. It's actually a better commute than when we lived close to the space center and she had to take I45.
