Just be wary, I'm extremely concerned about parts of Texas being unsustainable and drought-prone, especially here the Austin metro. Water restrictions and more to come. It is not unusual for the lake to dry up (this year being one of the worst) and I know several people who lost homes in the wildfires just east of Austin. So many people moving here and traffic is rated 3rd worst in the US for a consecutive year. Yes, Austin rated with worse traffic than Dallas and Houston!

Houston has mainly seen huge improvement in the last 20 years, but I'm afraid the opposite is true for Austin and central Texas.

I was just about to comment on that. You will not recognize Houston if you have not seen it in 20+ years.

Actually it is the stupid voters who have allowed it to be run into the ground. They keep voting the same way and the cycle continues. It will not be sustainable. The Unions, the pension system (I have never seen as many retired people in my life at the ripe age of 55) This state is full of them...that good old state pension system. This is just one small part of what is wrong with CA.

Default Single Mom moving from Beaumont

Good evening! I've researched Houston on here for quite some time, but it is mind boggling. Thought I would post with my specifications & see if that helped any.

I am a student most likely going into Sonography, so school needs to be close. I will find part time work wherever I can, so location is very flexible on that end. I will be renting an apartment for a few years. We will be making a lot of trips to Beaumont. I would say atleast once a month. We are getting into tennis so must have a tennis league. We would both love love love to be able to bicycle around to various places so good sidewalks would be great. (They are scarce in Beaumont) A nice YMCA would be fantastic! aaand great dance schools...she is showing a lot of interest in hip hop dancing. I live north of Beaumont now in a small, safe wooded town with good schools, but the people are clickish & snobby & most of all I am bored to tears, except when we are hiking etc on Village Creek. Would love to be in the thick of things for a while, as long as its pretty safe. Also, my best friends live in Katy & aunt is NW & will be getting together with them as much as possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, then. Carry on thinking that....
average white person does not have a history of slavery and disenfranchisement that many minorities do (specifically in this respect African Americans). do i have an understanding and commonality with a poor urban (inside the loop in your words) black "hood" (in your words)? no im a well off white man. but i'd hope I'd have some sensitivity to my own people who i share a common ancestry and recent history with

it is a fairly well studied section of sociology that is quite unfortunate again. "black flight" read about it

racism can be internalized
