Mine were Sears too. So what? My parents didn't have money for such things and it was just known as what you did. You went to Sears.
Today it's different. It all depends what you want.
If you are lucky, you'll get something halfway decent and boring like this from Sears or the local mall.

Personally, I'd rather have something more creative and candid like this from an independent professional photographer...




Or even my own random snaps would go on my walls before a plain old studio portrait.




But that's just me.
It all depends on your own standards, personal sense of style, etc.
But in response to your question of why Sears? Because there is sooooo many better options out there with much more talent and creativity.
