I am participating in a Flat Stanley project for a friend. http://www.flatstanley.com/about.php (broken link)

If you are unfamiliar with that - it's a paper doll that starts in one location, then gets sent around to friends/family in various parts of the world. The goal is to get Flat Stanley to as many places as possible within a specified time frame. A friend from Florida has sent him to me.

Where should I take a picture of Flat Stanley that represents Houston?

I live in the Humble area, so I was going to do some Pine trees (for the Piney Forest). Where else? I would prefer not to drive TOO far! Minute Maid Park? On the Light rail?

Would love some suggestions...

Maybe I should send him to Jfre81 so he could get in some of his cool pics!!

With little to no travel you can get a photo at your neighborhood Tex-Mex joint next to a plate of yummy food. Ditto for a BBQ joint.

Close to Humble there is/are the IAH sculpture flags: George Bush Intercontinental Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Other ideas further afield are the Water Wall at the Galleria, NASA, San Jacinto monument, the armadillo at Goode Co. on Kirby, Miller Outdoor Theater...

We've participated in these Flat Stanley activities before and while admittedly they are a pain, they do help encourage us to go out and do the tourist-y things we would otherwise never do in our own city!

The Zoo or the Natural History Museum or the Children's Museum would work. Discovery Green perhaps?

I agree with modster about the Astrodome. When it opened in April 1965, it was a very big deal -- the world's first multi-purpose, domed sports stadium -- and it was called the 8th Wonder of the World.

Even though it's no longer a big deal, the Astrodome building has been closely associated with Houston ever since. When you see photos of it, you automatically know you're seeing Houston. I cant think of any other structure of which that can be said.
