Would you install a Water Softener or Reverse Osmosis system for Telfair? (Houston: new home)

New Construction

We are contemplating on adding plumbing for the WAter Softener system so that we can buy one after market. But the builder wants to charge $725 for preplumbing for the WAter Softener system. What would you recommend?

Is it even worth adding a Water Softener System and R O system ? Or should I just get a Reverse Osmosis system which I definitely plan on doing...

Why add the plumbing? You should be able to have any softener installed after the fact outside the home, rather than taking up space in your garage.
Even our builder on our new home suggested we just have it installed outside, especially since it's built/designed to withstand the outdoors. So that's what we did, and instead of spending the money on the stub out for that, we are getting one for a sink instead.
Our current house was built in 1960 and we had our Hague WaterMax installed a few years ago. Love it. I say ANYWHERE in houston needs a water softener.
I also think an RO system is invaluable anywhere in houston too. Especially since this draught. The tap water is just plain nasty now, even if you could have tolerated it before.

I wanted to understand if it would be a challenge for anyone to add it later if I didnt add plumbing for it now. I was thinking abt adding a sink in the patio or adding a plumbing to it atleast...if it is possible, then I think i will go for that instead of adding it in the garage and losing space..
