lol ... when someone is concerned about the heat and posts about it - everyone is so quick to tell the OP to man-up but when in a general discussion on heat the same people are the ones whining and crying about how awful it is and how much they miss wherever they came from. Seems to me the better than thou attitude is coming from the transplants.

been here for a few years. have never gotten used to the weather, never open my windows, and basically live inside all the time (gone are the days when i would go for a walk outside). the ac in houston is excellent, so if u have a garage at home and a parking garage at work, u can avoid the heat to some extent. i will tell u, during the 5-6 month long summers, i immediately feel dirty when i step out of the house in the early morning due to the very high humidity (80%). that goes away though cause u will get into very well air conditioned buildings/cars, etc. i can make it thru the work week pretty well, but the weekends get pretty irritating in the summer because it makes it tough to go out to get groceries, etc. but u gotta do what u gotta do.

I have slowly crept across the state but spent most of my life in a very, very dry climate. My husband moved here from the Midwest and he runs miles and miles. He just drinks a lot more water now. It probably took about a year to get used to it. I wouldn't say we love the heat and humidity between June and September but we carry on. Like someone else said, you can always find A/C.

My husband says it beats scraping ice off cars and shoveling.

Heck ya! Waking up to 2 feet of snow was no fun. Instantly a couple hours late to work. And then having to de-ice your car in the dark and cold AFTER work. Constant shoveling of the driveway. Black ice on the roads. Salt and dirty slush everywhere. Ugh.

You'll love it here - on the occasions where we do have snow and ice - everything shuts down. No work, no school. Because 1) people here don't know how to drive on that stuff and 2) nor are their cars equipped with anything for those conditions. I'd much rather be home than slipping and sliding my way to work.

Are you asking this from outside the fire ant distribution zone? I never have them in my yard except occasionally in the sunniest spot which is the city right of way next to the curb and sidewalk. There is a FEMA lot next door, and I never see fire ants there either, have no idea why as it is sunnier and the ants prefer to be away from shade.

We have quarterly pest control and they spray for fire ants. However, our neighbors do not have pest control and there are huge fire ant mounds on their property. I went around to that side of my house to water and the ants bit me. I had never experienced that before as a California native. I still have scars on my ankle from those ants 6 weeks later.

As far as the heat goes, I have a thyroid condition that results in heat intolerance and I am miserable most of the year.

Our Exterminator puts these any granules down and it takes care of them within days.
