Unfortunately, no high school is immune from the behavior pdouglas has pointed out, even the best high schools have some sort of drama that goes on. Not excusing the disgusting behavior expecially the one involving the teacher. Just because you buy into a master planned community, or high end neighborhood or if your child goes to a private school, and even whether the school is explemplary or low performing, sooner or later, some sort of something will go on. You hope and pray it is not while your child is attending the school however, the only way to avoid the high school problems in today's society, is to homeschool.

If you live in Sugar Land (and this issue has been addressed previously and is controversial) the best public high schools are going to be Austin and Clements. Kempner is improving but it is primarily because of the influx of kids from the Telfair community.

Bush, Marshall, and Willowridge have to be at the bottom rung of high schools. These three schools can't even began to compete with Austin and Clements in terms of academic rigor and overall student achievement. If my post offends you, well sorry but that's the way I see it and I know countless number of students and parents who would agree with me.

School districts should levy heavy, punitive fines on people who do that. If it drives people into bankruptcy/provokes members of the family into committing crimes/destroys the family, then so be it

To parents out there, we all want our kids to be in the best schools but there is something to consider. Texas has the Top 10% rule for public universities. Students ranked in the top 10% gain automatic acceptance at any public university, including University of Texas and Texas A&M. In fact, 80% of UT freshman come from this rule. This means that in a class of 600 students, only 60 will get this perk. In a school like Clements, where probably 1/3 of the class would be considered high achievers by any guidelines, a lot of these kids won't get to go to the Tier 1 schools while kids in the top 10% from low-performing schools will. It is purely class rank, not your test scores, not your GPA. So in theory, someone with a 850 SAT, 2.7 GPA at a low performing school will be accepted over someone with a 1200 SAT, 3.6 GPA at a competitive school like Clements. I understand why the rule was created - to offer kids from low performing schools the chance to attend a good college, but it has really hurt a large number of solid students.

Before the start of this school year, several Fort Bend high schools were opened up for transfer registration to anyone (even people from Houston), including Ridge Point, Willowridge and Marshall. I know some people from Clements who moved their kids to these schools purely to achieve the ranking required for acceptance to a state college...at the expense of the quality of their education. So keep this in mind when looking at high schools.

If you are planning on a private university, it doesn't matter.

The latest average SAT score for Clements is 1769. Kempner is 1519. Many people live in Telfair choose Kempner than Clements because of that 10% rule.

Perfect. One cradle robber less in the school system. Takes Travis up a notch in my book.

Oh yes, those Telfair kids are soooo much brighter than the kids from Covington Place, Barrington Place and Woodbridge.

In fact, I hear Kempner is going to divide their GT program between subdivisions.

In one area, you will see the Covington kids and in another the Barrington Place kids and so on and so forth. It will be like this until you see a huge wall on the other side of the room.

And on the other side of the wall will be the Telfair kids. Why? That way, the Telfair parents can be thoroughly convinced that their children are the only ones in the GT program (not to mention their children being the reason Kempner is so wonderful now).
