I just moved here and will have to travel about 1:15 one way daily (Clear Lake to Spring). Is that normal for working people in this city?

I travel 8 minutes on a back road to work everyday, but I live in the loop and work just barely outside of it. The time should be reduced when the ramp to the highway near my house is opened, but I am certainly quite close to work. My car is in the shop right now and I've been riding my bike to work, which only takes 20 minutes on the bike trail...same time if I decide to take bus.

Many people travel a long distance for work, but I cant say what percentage.

From farm road 1463 in west Katy to Gessner and Westheimer, it takes me a good hour (sometimes 50 min) if I leave at 7am. The distance is only 22 miles. Saddens me. I tried taking the tollway all the way there, but I averaged about 1hr 20 min on two attempts.

Clearlake to Spring? That's crazy!
City data has that information on its demographic page, but if my memory serves me right, I think the majority have 30-60 min commutes in houston. Your commute is on the long side.
Mine is about 25-35min. depending on how many school buses I'm behind and how many accidents I have to bipass.

13 miles. It takes 30 minutes during rush hour. 15-20 otherwise. OP's commute sounds dreadful.

I live Uptown and work in the Medical Center. Takes me about 15 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening.
