Hi, I will be moving to Houston from another state VERY soon, to work in the Galleria area and I'd prefer to live outside of the 610 area (less $ and lack of crime). I'm a professional and need to find a place to stay (max $700/mo, must lease, apt/condo/a room) but I have some problems

- I have had to break a lease due to relocating to help very sick family
- When I relocated to help the family member, it damaged my credit

I am looking for a nice place to live, that is not crime infested. Im a single female in her 30's.

(1) What is the best area that is nice, not to expensive or not to far
(2) Whats the best course of action given the broken lease/credit issues

2 area's I've found - Bunker Hill, Katy. (Also let me know if any of these area's are prejudiced against non Whites.)

Thanks alot!

First of all If you're single and working in the Gallaria area, why do you want to stay way out in Katy. Why not live in The Gallaria area(Uptown). The Gallaria area is one of the nicest areas in Houston. And you wouldn't have to deal with a long commute. Second of all, crime happens everywhere. Even in Sugar Land(voted one of the best american cities to live in) people were getting robbed in their drive ways. Third of all I hate when people get on here and ask "are there racist people in Houston?" ah yes, there's racist people everywhere, Im pretty sure even where you come from. That being said Houston is a very diverse city and as long as you're not a a-hole with a bad attitude, most people are nice here. As far as you having bad credit for breaking a lease, that might be a big problem.

Yes. Live in the Galleria. It isn't too bad. There are a few things to do out there. Houston isn't as bad crime wise as you think it should be. And as far as not being white, you do realize most people in Houston aren't white right?

Thanks! I was told before that the Galleria area was very busy and high crime, so I just went off of what I was told. But if you guys say it's fine, I will try it. That is the reason why I mentioned Katy or Bunker Hill. And lol sorry to infer anything about racism. I was told about certain outskirts and didn't want to end up in a community that didn't like me. Don't want this thread about that though, so moving on...

Do you guys think I can find something, a 1 br, pretty nice, under or at 700/mo with my having broken a lease before? Also what area within the galleria? I'm told the job is on San Felipe around the Galleria.

You might want to get with a apartment locator.

You won't find a place Uptown (Galleria) for $700/month. With a broken lease and not so perfect credit you would be pushed to go outside of Uptown somewhere along Westheimer or Richmond. The general area has the typical inner city crime but it's not ghetto. I think some of the older townhomes may be in that price range and generally seem safer than apartment complexes.

Yeah I'm thinking it's best to get something further out than right in the Galleria area. I don't mind commuting as long as it's near some of the main roads. I think further out is safer and kinder to my budget.

What are some of the area's you all would recommend? A 30-45 min commute (without) traffic would be far enough.
