Me and my family are looking to move to the Houston TX area very soon and we are looking for a great neighborhood for an active large family. My husband it In the IT field and we have 5 children ranging in ages from 14 yrs. to 5 yrs.
I want a diverse, safe, neighborhood that will not totally deflate our pockets. Given the fact that we have a large family we will be looking for a larger house or apartment to rent for the next year until we are more prepared to search and purchase a home. any input would be so very much helpful.
thanks so much.

Houston is very large so you will probably want to live close to where he will be working. Do you know where his office is?

not sure as of yet where his office will be. Commuting is not the major deal. Our major concern is our home environment.

right now He has a 9-5 but a major part of our income comes from his home electronics business. That is what we have plans of relying on when we first arrive. Any neighborhood advise truly appreciated.

Well if you're operating a business out of your home, you will probably want to avoid most HOA communities which have restrictions against such a thing, especially if it would require "customers" coming to the house. That knocks out most MPC's. What's your budget. There are alot of random nice areas of unzoned residential, but you need some decent cash to get in because they usually have large lots.

Commuting should be a big deal -- Houston has nearly identical communities all over the place. You can go to Sugarland in the south, Katy in the west, Woodlands in the North, Kingwood in the NE and get basically the exact same thing. Now, if you go to Sugarland and end up working in the Woodlands, you just bought yourself a 2 hour commute, which would kill your "home environment".

Nice communities here are a dime a dozen -- find where you'll be working and go from there. Also, what's your budget?

All of this is true.

The aim is to get the nicest area that is in your budget, at the closest possible distance from work. Even if you work from home, you have to consider your customer base location.

Without budget, no one can guess whether to suggest a %750K neighborhood - or one $150K.

o.k. I do understand where you are coming from. Our budget for renting for the first year or so we are thinking will be in the $1500 range.

Key words here are IT and diverse neighborhood. Look out around the Richmod/Westheimer area.
