"Emergency alert system to be tested Wednesday"

FYI: this test was put into place by George W. Bush, after the Katrina debacle.

For a lot more details on this test, including some rather paranoid and outright ignorant comments about it, go here:

"Public Questions Purpose of EAS Test"

FYI: the airwaves are NOT privately owned - they are owned by the public and are leased to private entities, so the gov't still retains overall control over them. It's been that way for decades, IIRC back to the early 1920s.

If the "public" owns them, why do I have to ask permission and pay to use them? The answer is that the "public" does not own them, the government does.

O.K. folks I didn't intend for this to turn into yet another conservative vs. liberal argument thread.

If it does, I'll ask the moderator to lock the thread.

I had a poster in HS. I wish I still had it:

In case of a nuclear attack:

1. Remove all metal from your pockets.
2. Remove your shoes.
3. Remove your belt.
4. Sit under a desk or table.
5. Lock your fingers behind your head.
6. Pull your head down toward your knees.
7. Kiss your a$$ g'bye!
