well, I described it as such because it looked like it was forgotten. I am sure it is more along the lines of out of site, out of mind. The area is far flung. It is not exactly prime Real estate. It is about a 20 minute drive from town and is close to a really rough area.

besides, it is surrounded by water on 3 sides and a forested area on the other. It is kinda isolated.. Also bear in mind that this is on the fringes. Although I am sure it happens within the beltway too.

Houses started to disappear; looking at the maps. The area still had homes up until 2006. Skips over 2007 and goes to 2008 and all the houses are gone.

This neighborhood was on a list of proposed buyouts as early as 1995. Houston began buying out properties along Greens bayou since around that time, but early plans shown in the attached Corps of Engineers report lead me to believe they were concentrating on areas west of Glen Forest. After Allison, FEMA gave Houston funds to buy out an additional 600 homes. This was a voluntary buyout, which probably explains why some houses remained for a while - it probably took some homeowners another flood or two to decide to sell.

okay you put the final piece of info in place for me.

I was confused as to why some lawns remained in parts and in other there were trees that looked like they had 15 ft trees where houses once were.

thanks all for the combination of info. I can put together the story now

Default Pictures

Forgot I took pictures earlier.

This is the entrance to the subdivision that I noticed on my walk:

A couple of trees have fallen blocking off the streets:

12 ft trees beginning to encroach on the street:

streets slowly disappearing:

looks more like a country/ county road than a subdivision:

most house lots look like this, covered in trees:

Great pictures. It looks like older homes from way back when used to be there before the trees started to grow into a forest.

Default more pictures

This is the main street into the subdivision from 45

You can see 45 in the distance just passed the entrance to 45:

The Exxon Towers at greenspoint are right across the bayou from all this desertion:

View going into the subdivision:

its not fenced off at all.

They are even overtaking the stop signs
