That plan isn't all that good if you have a gas heater.

6.6 doesn't exist in today's market.

Daniel- it's not a great plan if you have a gas heater because they don't use electricity to generate heat (only to spin the fan motor). That means your kWh usage will be lower, and it might throw you into the 10 cent bracket all the way until the contract expires. It's also not a good plan for people in small apartments.

Now if you're a wasteful individual with a big, all electric home and you crank the heat up to 75 all the time, it'll throw you into the cheaper bracket.

Hmmm... I just renewed with Reliant today (12/2) for 6 months at 7¢ (1000kWh) / 6.6¢ (2000kWh).

I just have a hard time seeing anyone in a house with a family even having a gas meter not going below 1000. And wow if you do go below 1000 you'll be charged @ .10 which is still nothing. You'll make that up once our 3 month winter passes when the summer hits getting charged .07

I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment last year on the bottom floor in an all electric apartment and never got below 800kwh in a month including winter.

Yeah I don't think my usage ever drops below 1,000 kwh/month, even in the winter. So it's 7 cents @ 1,000 kwh. $70... sounds pretty decent to me.

Something is wrong with your meter or that's all you have in the apartment that's using electricity (lights and a/c). Lights, fridge and a/c will use more than 150 in a month. In the summer the a/c will use more than 500.

When the summer hits that contract will expire?

Anyway, I looked up my past usage. Last year we used about 750-850 kWh in the winter months, which put it about $75-85. Gas peaked out at $100 during the "cold" month we had, though. Typically I keep the heater at 70 all day except at night where it's 65. SAHM and a toddler, 2200 sq ft, 1 story, 16 yrs old.

I used to live in an old 2 bedroom apartment way back when, and we always had usage in there higher than our current house. Same went for an older, smaller 3 bedroom house. On the other hand I was in a newer ('03ish) apartment inside 610 and the electric was always a constant $40-50. These newer builds, esp the newest ones, are a helluva lot more efficient.
