Until you have enough housing downtown, the tunnels will stay on a workday schedule, and business will keep concentrating on the breakfast/lunch crowd... a lot of those places are usually closed by 2-3pm, and like many have said, it's fine just like it is...

I don't understand why make it a tourist attraction, there's nothing in there that you don't have anywhere else, but for those of us that work downtown, it's a great way to stay off the elements. They have done a great job of keeping the bums out of there as well, so you get a somewhat sense of security.

I don't mind the crowds though, would rather have that than empty tunnels...

Funny you should ask. I work in WF Plaza which dumps right into the tunnels. Foreigners abound during the summer down there with kids in tow. I don't know that the attraction is either, but it appears to be a must see.

They were probably staying downtown; which I understand, but I see no one really traveling from outside of downtown to come enjoy the tunnels.

I dont buy that excuse there are plenty of city with decent actvity on the surface that have tunnels, houston downtown has always been a bussiness district, I think that is just more houstians mindset, we just dont care to flock to downtown just for the hell of it, and i travel on the streets a reguar , I see people in the bars, and restarunts all the time, hell at around 1 the flying sauser looks pacted on weekdays, as well.Houston people are not like NY or LA, we tend to only go downtown for certain events. discoverly green and other places have helped in many regard, but again people on tend to hit those venues when something is actually going on there

It's the same thing in Dallas. All of downtown rolls up the sidewalks at 7PM except for lower McKinney and the Warehouse District.
