Hello, I am searching for information regarding purchasing an empty lot and building a small (very small) house in Eastwood. I am curious about what kind of restrictions I may encounter building a non-traditional structure. Basically I want to construct a shotgun house. I am also curious if anyone has any information regarding if I wanted to put a trailer home on my lot. I am mostly just curious about these restrictions and have no idea where to start my info search, besides requesting deed restrictions for the area. Is it very expensive to deal with all the permitting etc.? I have never done anything like this before (I am a builder/fixer, just never built on my own property) so any general advice or information is much appreciated. Thanks!

The Eastwood Civic Association has a website with contact information -- you might start there.

Eastwood is a 100-year-old neighborhood inside the loop. Like many historic neighborhoods, it does not have an HOA.

Sounds like a putting a trailer on your lot would be welcomed with open arms. But, just be prepared for all the neighbors to start screaming and bitching about how you are going to cause their tax assessments to skyrocket....

You mean 98 years old and yes it is a Historic neighborhood which was one of the first master planned developments in Houston. Your are correct no HOA.

New mobile homes are not permitted in the City of Houston. I believe your trailer home would be considered that because it's mobile. Maybe if you remove it's mobility and anchor it, that would solve the issue, but then you have to be sure it's permanently connected to the city's water/sewer and also power.

Just curious, why do you want to purchase a lot in Eastwood only to put a trailer on it? Maybe I'm not understanding something.

I think the trailer is temporary until house is finished. i seriously doubt a trailer would be allowed. I hope not....i know its just temporary for this guy,but could you imagine if it was ALLOWED for everyone ughhhh.
