i bought these seeds from home depot. salesman told me it's st. augustine but it dont match my lawn.

my st augustine is thick and not too green. the one i bought is thin and very green.

The darker grass in your picture is not St Augustine. That looks like some sort of Bermuda variation. Somebody sold you the wrong thing.

You can't get St Augustine seeds from Home Depot. That is sold in the spring as sod squares. The seeds, if they came from a bag, are likely some kind of Bermuda as stated above. Some people have both grasses in their yards... as the St Augustine goes dormant that stuff in the picture takes over, and vice versa. Not a big fan of that look.

if i buy sod squares later, will there be different varieties of st augustine?
i dont want to buy st augustine sod only to find out later it's a different st augustine than what i have in my lawn.

There are different varieties of st. aug, but I discovered after trying to buy a particular variety, that I could only find one type readily available in Houston, so I don't think you have any worries there.

Exactly. The green stuff is rye grass. Some overseed their St. Augusting with rye grass in the winter. Rye grass will be dead by March or so. Can't take the heat and that's the same time your St. Augustine wakes up.
