With General Growth Properties balancing on the precipice of bankruptcy, what are thoughts on buying into Bridgeland? With only 600+ homes built, the community is not yet self sufficient. If they go on the selling block, what are the odds of the buyer following through with the current plan?

We've talked to several builders and they say that the develeoper told them that they have a buyer already and that there will be no change to the plan, blah, blah, blah, Cinco Ranch has changed hands 3 times and kept on going, blah, blah, blah.

These are hard times and who knows what will happen to the undeveloped land. I think it's better to buy in a built out area, so there won't be any surprises. It's in a remote area to begin with, then you add a bad economy and bankrupcy...

General Growth has already stated that the buyer will continue on with the plans. No reason to think that the buyer wouldn't.

It's a short story. About a sentence or two long. Something like "1971: Large-Scale Master-Planned Community Goes Bankrupt. Home and landowners lose their shirts."

Thanks to inheritance, I own 4 lots that are completely worthless. You can't even get to them. It's fun to look at the old blueprints for the place, though. The plans! Good lord. Big plans. Never happened.

With a development like this and all of the planning already done, I doubt they are lying. Just look at Cinco Ranch for starters.

Even if they never build another house out there, I just like the way it's set up. I drove through Cinco Ranch and Firethorne this past weekend and both were just too claustrophobic for me. Very nice houses and well laid out, but not for me.

We've got the builders narrowed down to Highland and David Weekley and strongly leaning towards Highland, but we'll wait to make a decision until after our current house is on the market.

Thanks for all the opinions on the subject - I really appreciate the input.
