Ok, I am planning to take a trip to Houston to see what it's all about. Please give me some ideas on where I can stay (i.e., hotels, locations, etc.). Maybe a similar thread has been posted, but I could not find it.

Thanks in advance!

Can you name anything in particular you're interested in seeing?

We might go from there...

I just want to take a tour of the city. Therefore, I want to stay at a location that's central.

Downtown Houston, its near the zoo, park, resturants, medical center, and clubs. There are plenty of upscale hotels near downtown Houston. I will also reccomend the galleria area. If you are in to malls, then the galleria is the place, expensive though.

You can access the zoo, museum district, medical center etc. using the light rail line.

Uptown (Galleria) has some of the worst traffic in the city, so have some time to spend if you're going that way. Avoid the freeways. Shoot straight down Westheimer or Richmond.

Please do not be one of these people who ride down 45, see all the concrete and billboards and get it in their head that it's all there is here.

Thank you for your response. So, do you think I need to rent a car to go from the airport to the hotel, etc.?

There is an airport shuttle service that will take you downtown, but you might want to rent a car anyway. Public transportation is rather spotty here, but it's a work in progress....emphasis on *progress*

The Magnolia is nice. The Marriott downtown is also good.
