What a whole bunch of nothing this thread is about.
I'm sure the guy honestly thought that he may have set the alarm off in the house and was merely apologizing for it.
I'm going to take a wild guess that the UPS driver in question was black and that the OP is not, thus helping to fuel his paranoia.

I was home two different times when the UPS man delivered something. From where I was sitting both times, I had a side view of the entryway, but not the front door. One dog did his usual barking, then acted terrified and started backing up as if he was being threatened. I ran to the door and saw the UPS man walking away.

I have small window panes floor to ceiling on each side of the front door. The second time this happened, my dog appeared very scared and it lasted for over a minute. I came around the corner and saw the UPS man with his face pressed up against the window making crazed faces at my dog. He didn't see me for a few seconds, so he kept doing it. He was shocked when he saw me and then quickly ran off.

I was very upset and called UPS about it. I also quickly had surveillance cameras installed. I was concerned that the man was casing the place and maybe seeing how my dog would behave. Who knows, but I didn't like it and thought it was very unprofessional of the UPS man. He should have left the package, rang the doorbell and left.
OMG! That's crazy. He was definitely casing your house. He must have seen your dogs outside before and wanted to see how they would react. Now that the dogs have seen his face, he knows your dogs are docile and scary.

You don't make faces at a dog. They'll remember you.

WTF kind of men is UPS hiring these days? I guess criminals are now on the job hunt and applying at UPS and getting hired. Nice.

Well they tell criminals to be a part of society, how else do they do that without working?

Be careful about what you tell people.
You should seriously heed your own advice. Guns are like a top three item thieves are looking for in a home robbery. That was not a smart thing to say to a stranger.

Anytime you tell somebody something of importance, you do not have control over who they repeat it to.

Guns are just as desirable as money to criminals. You should have left it at the "no it was not the alarm". Giving away too much info is never good.

Good point. In hindsight, I have to agree with you.

We have more than one neighbor on our cul-de-sac who always keeps their guns handy in case of a break-in or home invasion while they're home (as do we). In fact, our next door neighbor turned on his porch light at midnight one night less than 6 months ago, only to discover a man lurking on his porch, who quickly ran away.

Listening to his story sent chills up our spines. And we had thought in our neignborhood, we were safe from that possibility.

I suppose I had that in mind when I mentioned the guns.

But anyone who doesn't think in Houston, TX, a UPS driver (who only rang an obvious , simple doorbell), bringing up this issue, confusing it with an alarm, doesn't merit concern...they must not read the papers very much.

I think it was a logical explanation. Your doorbell probably just really freaked him out and he didn't want to give you guys the wrong impression [which he ended up doing anyways lol]

It's always good to be alert though; I'd hate for you to take this as nothing and something ends up happening. I'm a pretty paranoid person and would probably have had the same reaction as you.
