I suppose if I grew up in an area as picturesque as parts of the NE, an industrial city such as Houston would be an eyesore. But alas, I grew up here, am used to the power lines, as I am to the miserable weather, and I still love it.

The overall Houston MSA is pretty vast, and I would argue that there are many areas where you can get an acre, no power lines, no neighbors on top of you, nicely landscaped areas with lakes and nature trails, and the ability to use a custom builder to your specifications in the $600 range. Can't help you with the flat terrain, or unsightly powerlines if you venture into town. Cinco is nice, but eventually you have to venture out of it at some point.

See below, click on Real Estate, start at $600k and up, that is where I live. All custom builders, can use their plans or your own, make any changes you want, no 2 homes are even close to like each other.

Just happens to be rated one of the Top 50 Public Courses in the United States as well.

They look pretty basic to me, typical upper-middle management housing. <shrug> But the scenery certainly is better. But being on a public course? Yikes.

Wow, I am really jealous of where you live. You and the place you live are quite amazing. I feel quite humbled in your presence and I hope to someday strive to reach your level in life. Someday there will be a bronze statue in your honor in Southwick I am sure.

How does one become proficient at looking at pictures, and at a glance, determine if it's "typical" upper middle management housing stock, or "atypical" upper middle management housing stock, or just your slightly above average upper middle class housing stock, or just regular upper middle management housing stock? You got a good eye.
