Houston economy faster-growing in North America - Houston Chronicle

Houston and Dallas were the only two major metropolitan economies on the continent to rank among the world's most robust in 2010-2011. The findings underscored a larger global shift away from traditional power centers, primarily to Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

"Large, mature metro economies like Tokyo, New York and London still have a lot of firepower, but high-performance metros like Shanghai, Istanbul and Santiago continued to close the gap last year," Emilia Istrate, a Brookings analyst who co-authored the study, said in a statement.[/quote]

In addition, Houston also was the US top performer in wage percentage increases.

Amazing! Wasn't like that when I lived there in the early 2000s. In fact, more people were leaving there than coming.

A lot of areas of Houston look run-down to me, and a lot of their old railroads seem to be getting torn up. On top of that everything's unbelievably cheap, and typically that means less demand, and therefore less desirability.

On top of that, I moved there right after Enron crashed. That's really saying something.
