I was wondering what areas around Houston would be good for a young couple (early 20s) to move to. We were looking at condos to rent, but I guess it really wouldn't matter if it was just an apartment or not. No more than $1500 and inside of the loop.

Any suggestions?

inside the loop - you have your answer. that area, imo, is the most fun and the closest to entertainment/cool/art stuff.

if 100% of your friends and your jobs are in some suburb than evaluate what driving out to see them all the time would do to you. you can always make new friends but it is kind of sucky living in the city and all of your friends somehow ended up in cypress.

i'd still go with in the city though.

you can stretch to inside the beltway if you look at the west side. westchase area is a little more sketchy but the gated condo/apartment buildings are still fairly nice. close proximity to the old richmond strip and a hop, stick and jump into the city for fun

Heights (just north of the loop), montrose, museum district, washington corridor and third ward if you are more accustomed to city living

should be able to get 1-2 bedroom for $1,500 (apts at least)

some areas just around the loop you may be able to find a rental home for $1,500. would be cutting it close though

I have lived at the Gables Cityscape on West Alabama and Essex House on Essex, both are very nice and affordable. A 2 bedroom will run you about $1100 but a one bedroom will suffice. Check them out!
