My husband and I are considering a move to Houston. He would be working downtown and I would be (hopefully) teaching at one of the law schools, so in downtown or just south of downtown and maybe working on an LLM at Univ. Of Houston Law Center. We are planning on starting a family in the next year, so we would want a family-friendly neighborhood with an excellent public elementary school. We don't mind moving in the future, so it's okay if the middle school/high school aren't as great.

I think we would probably want to stay under $250,000 for a home.

Our priorities would be:

Safe neighborhood near parks or running trails
Near a variety of good restaurants
As short a commute as possible (less than 30 minutes would be preferable)

I've been to Houston a couple of times, but really only saw Montrose (which I love, but I don't know much about it other than the antique stores) and the area around CityCentre (Sam Houston Tollway and Katy Freeway).

Any suggestions for areas that would be in our price range? Are there any inside 610 that would fit this?

Thanks!

Do you want a big house? If you want BIG, you'll have to go to the suburbs which can get you a 3000 sq ft house. If you are ok with a much smaller place, try these options. There are also townhomes around downtown that would fit your needs.

You'll have several options if you want to be inside the loop. What about something like this in Brooke Smith, it's near the Heights and great access to everything.
709 Walton, Houston, TX 77009 - HAR.com
506 Enid St, Houston, TX 77009 - HAR.com

Or this closer to UH in Idylwood.
6621 Wildwood Way, Houston, TX 77023 - HAR.com

Eastwood is another option, but nothing available there right now.

We don't have to have a huge place, but we would like a backyard.
