While many laugh at the Fertitta developments and refer to them as Landryville, I do believe that this will be good for Galveston and tourism. Hopefully this will encourage further development of Galveston and some modernization along the Seawall. I'm glad to see someone who is investing to improve Galveston for tourists and locals as well.

I am looking forward to this. Galveston has become really run down, and this could be the catalyst to turn things around. I, too, am glad to see this man such a huge investment in Galveston.

Galveston has always been a fun place, but this attraction along with Schlitterbahn, Moody Gardens, the many historical buildings and the beach will REALLY make Galveston a great place to go.

Sorry I put the link in to open to page 2 of the article and you have to back it up one to read from the beginning. Also nice to see that Fertitta did not ask for any incentives from the city of Galveston.

If I had the money I would invest in Galveston. Good news.

I agree. Call it corporate phonyness or whatever, but look at the Kemah Boardwalk. If you multiple sources found by google are correct, that boardwalk draws 3 million visitors annually-- a boon to the Kemah-Clear Lake area economy. From another simple google search: compare that to 1.5 million annually for the Houston Zoo, 2 million for the Museum of natural science, 7 million for the entire Museum district. 'Fake' as it may be, something like that would hopefully draw these kinds of huge #s of visitors to Galveston and revive at least some of the economy there. They should also throw in casino gambling while they're at it.

That would be great - but I am not going to hold my breath on the casino gambling but I do think Fertitta is positioning himself for that possibility with all his holdings along the coast.
