What levels does your private school cover? If it's not K-12 I can post public school info on particular neighborhoods (so if, say, your child leaves the private school and you decide to go public, you know what your options are)

The overpriced comment comes up a lot and if you're talking in pure dollars, you're most likely correct. We looked out in Katy (Firethorne) and Sugarland (Riverstone) and for what we paid for our 3 bedroom 1800 sq ft bungalow, we could have gotten a ginormous 5-bedroom home 4100 sq foot new build home out there. If space is the overriding factor and your budget is less than $500k, then the Heights isn't the right place for you.

Thanks to you all. I responded once, but for some reason it didn't save.

I expected varying responses. My husband seems to be focused on Spring Valley, but I'm not convinced we'll be able to find anything within our price range that is livable. I think the feel of community sounds amazing, but how many of those people are raising kids? I've been told it's great for either families with babies or no kids, but with elementary age it might not be the best area.

My biggest concern is that although I've been an urban dweller in the past, this move will be from a Dallas suburb to Houston - and will the change be too drastic.

I might have my husband drive through the neighborhood to get a feel (he already works in Houston). What streets are a good representation of the area?

We have family that live in Spring Valley.

The elementary school they were zoned to (Valley Oaks) is a good school so they bought in that area recently with the intention of sending their kids there instead of the private schools they had been paying for. They have not switched over yet as they are waiting for a new school year.

If you drive north on Campbell from I-10 you will see the Police Station and park on the west side of the road. It's a cute area. There are some areas that are older and some that are more run down. It just really depends on where you look.
